Are you worthy enough to carry the mantle of the Dark Knight?
This game, story wise, showcases the dichotomy of what it means to be Bruce Wayne and Batman at the same time. It is a world that unravels around politics and socialite people and yet, you rise to carry on the mantle of the Batman. That is a really interesting story that is not often seen in Batman media, who focuses on the character as a super hero rather than a human being with two sides. Exploring these two sides is very interesting to see.
The important thing about the Telltale series is how your choices affect the way the story develops and it is a punishment to have to make decisions that will influence the story within a 60 second timer. The two severely different personalities of Batman make it an interesting way to develop the story through the power of choice, and it makes it even more dynamic and engaging to have such power on your fingers.
The game is all about Bruce Wayne’s journey as either the powerful and rich political figure, or the punisher known as the Dark Knight, the Batman. The split psyche of a character that has two identities is very important in this world, in this game, so eventually we’ll have to learn to balance those choices as it continues the story.
Although the game can get a little bit bland, the detective-style interactions can become quite attractive and more, well, interactive, than just making choices. It is important that you learn to be a good detective and that will eventually help you a lot as you switch from Bruce Wayne to Batman and vice-versa. You will learn to become a true hero through the schematics of the game.
All in all, the game takes a new spin on a Batman game, and it eventually showcases a new side of the character that we rarely see, even more so we get to play. Playing as the politician and rich socialite Bruce Wayne is something very unexplored, so it’s very engaging to see how our choices make it up for the man he becomes and who takes priority: The vigilante who imparts justice with a fearful fist, or the man who wants to make his home a better place through dialogue and other political tactics. Who is this man, and how does he become who hebecomes?
The game is an interaction of Batman, a detective and brawler and Bruce Wayne, a politician. Eventually the game revolves around which decision you will make that makes justice to all the decisions the DC Comics characters would make. It all comes down to the choices you make. Will you support Harvey Dent? Will you face Catwoman? It all comes down to those moments that will forge your character to truly become the Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader, the Batman but also the man who lost his family in a dark alley.
