Introduction

Batman: Arkham City video game is an action-themed game which was established by Rocksteady Studios and distributed by Warner Bros for the Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. It is based on the DC comic hero Batman and was released in 2011. Arkham City is a continuation of the 2009 Arkham Asylum video game (it’s the second release of Batman Arkham series).

General Impression

Arkham City is among the most pleasing games of 2011- even if you aren’t a fan of the DC superhero Batman. Between its action and wealth of stealth, memorable characters, well-written story, and amazing production values, this video game is absolutely worth your time.

While Batman walks a bit slowly, his brawls are fluid and fast as you master takedowns and combinations with a few hours of practice. You may get away with some “button crushing” at the beginning of the game, but defeating tougher enemies and bosses will require some know-how ranged attacks, melee, acrobatic dodges, use of gadgets, as well as other tactics. For instance, some opponents can only be defeated with certain tricks and moves – with a set approach (from behind or above).

But Batman Arkham City is more than just a series of skirmishes. It is an adventure to navigate via the dark city of Gotham, scale the tall buildings, and soar with your outspread cloak between skyscrapers. You will also traipse via scary indoor levels, including an old museum, an abandoned courthouse, and a subterranean, to name a few.

Graphics and Design

Lovers of Arkham Asylum will definitely feel at home in Arkham City as Rocksteady took the primary gameplay, retouched it, and polished it. You counter with one button, brawl with another, and leap when you want. Also, Batman has upgraded and learned other moves as well – such as the ability to take out 2 or 3 enemies at a go – and the ability to use any device in battle with a good key system.

Although the system might seem simple (that is if you ignore multipliers and combos) the diversity in the battles and attacks keeps it interesting. If you wanted to fight with bad guys as opposed to sneaking past them, then this video game has actually unlocked or upgraded this ability.

Software/Developer

The video game developed by Rocksteady Studios and distributed by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment.

Positive and Negative Impression

The first and the most notable thing about this game is that you feel like Batman. The story has been developed in such a way that you immerse yourself in the game. The game also features lots of challenge maps as well as side missions which will keep you engaged throughout.

The negative side is that it doesn’t come with a manual. The developer assumes that the player should have played Arkham Asylum.

Story Summary

After the occurrence at Arkham Asylum, Mayor Sharp has redesigned the center of Gotham and transformed it into a jail. Gang rivals and Mayor Sharp appoints Hugo Strange I to be in charge of the jail. The story has lots of twists and turns that you shouldn’t miss out.

Conclusion

The game builds upon the foundation of the Asylum and has become 5 times larger than the previous version. There is also a new jail for all Gotham most dangerous criminals.
